Antique Carved Black Oak Pilgrim's Trunk

An exquisite, antique cabinet-chest or Pilgrim's trunk. Circa 17th-18th Century. It is comprised of black oak. The decorative elements are beautifully carved on the front door and drawers. These include ornate floral and arboreal patterns framed by slender baluster reliefs. A central door opens into a deep storage space. Below are two drawers. At the front are two bun feet, while three tapered legs support the back. The middle back leg is an addition. This Pilgrim trunk most likely began as a chest with a hinged top lid and was reconfigured into its present form.
