"End of Cape" by Sol Wilson

"End of Cape" by the Polish-born American painter Sol Wilson (1893-1974). Oil on canvas with wood frame. Like many of his paintings of beaches, urban scenes, and construction sites, this landscape evokes a tension between the forces of nature and the human-built structures. Wilson often painted people doing rough, hands-on labor. That rough quality is also palpable in this painting. The artist was a teacher and in community with other American modernists like George Bellows. His work can be found in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The painting is signed on the lower right and titled on the back.
