The artist applies a mixture of different glazing techniques to create various effects in hue and surface. The vase's external surface is reminiscent of wood bark in a deep gray highlighted with a metallic glaze, while its interior is a smooth palette of aqua blue-greens and copper reds, also glazed. A protrusive form at the bottom portion of the vase recalls mushroom shelves that grow on trees. At the very top, the rim transforms into a spout in a metallic copper glaze.
