Scientific Illustrations of Birds by Saverio Manetti, Hand-Painted Intaglio - A Set of 6

These six intaglio illustrations come from "Storia naturale degli uccelli" ("Natural History of Birds), a book written by the Italian ornithologist Francesco Saverio Manetti (1723-1785) in collaboration with artists Lorenzo Lorenzi and Violante Vanni. Produced in 1765-1775, they are engravings hand-painted with watercolor. This series features small birds, among them the wagtail and pispola, beautifully rendered and accompanied by their scientific names in cursive. The illustrations are presented in giltwood frame with glass and matting.

21.5 in. width x 25.5 in. height

Sight dimensions:
11.25 in. width x 14 in. height

Condition notes:
In overall good condition. Buckling and discoloration to paper all consistent with the illustrations' age and use. Frames were a later addition.
